Maybe I am pulling straws here, but, there may be a connection between the malware and the random restarts of the pc which is only fixed by selecting Last Known Good Configuration.Īny help on resolving this situation will be appreciated. I believe this is something commonly seen with dial up connections to AOL, but, since I have a broadband connection to AOL, DSL, I find this to be suscpious as well. ![]() Also, I sometimes see a small window titled AOL Dialer which request a username and password. I do get frequent alerts from AOL Spyware indicating spyware detected and gives me the option of blocking and deleting them which is a nice feature. ![]() ![]() I am not sure what could be causing this situation. If I choose any other option, even Safe Mode, it simply just restarts itself instead of going into any kind of desktop. Interestingly, if I choose Last Known Good Configuration, the problem becomes fixed and the pc boots straight into the Windows XP Pro SP2 desktop environment. This time, it restarts itselfself randomly for about 3 times, then, a screen appears listing menu options like Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Command Prompt Only, Last Known Good Configuration, etc. I have been experiencing a random recycling or restarting of the pc lately which happened once before some time back, around 2 months or so. ![]()
